The work of Investor Developments is not based on a predetermined model. It is an ongoing effort to reconsider how we develop the places in which human life unfolds—learning from what has come before, questioning assumptions that have become embedded in modern development systems, and exploring how existing knowledge, lived experience, and emerging technologies might be brought together differently.
The resources collected here document that process. They include principles, essays, research, frameworks, and working documents developed as we examine the conditions that contribute to human flourishing, agency, resilience, capability, and enduring relationships between people and place.
These are not intended as final answers. They represent an evolving body of thought—ideas to be examined, challenged, refined, tested, and ultimately informed by practical application.
We invite participation, not passive agreement.
If you are reading this work and see something we have missed, a question we have not asked, an assumption that should be challenged, or knowledge and experience that could deepen the inquiry, we encourage you to enter the dialogue.
Criticism is welcome when it advances the work. We are less interested in defending ideas than in making them better. Challenge what deserves to be challenged—but bring your reasoning, experience, evidence, questions, or alternatives with you.
This work will be stronger if thoughtful people from different disciplines, cultures, professions, and lived experiences participate in its development. You do not need to agree with us. You need to be willing to contribute to the inquiry.

A foundational clarification of the Human Settlement Model’s two interconnected domains—establishing the terminology, roles, boundaries, and methods that distinguish the intentional development of conditions of place from the cultivation of conditions of possibility, while ensuring that human flourishing remains open rather than prescribed.

Establishing a common language for the work.

Determining whether a place can responsibly support settlement.
A structured approach for evaluating land through its environmental, productive, infrastructural, social, and resource capacities—including the dependencies and limitations that should be understood before development decisions are made.
